In July 2026, I'm looking for apartments or rooms to rent while preparing to move for a new job.
I put a profile up on Roomies.com, and start contacting individuals who have posted rooms.
One of the rooms is posted by a woman who is, ostentably, a nurse.
I send a message, and the response I get asks questions ... that are addressed in (1) my profile, and (2) my initial message.
So I address the one oustanding question: "Do I have any pets?" -- Answer: "No pets." And leave the rest at questions and answers already addressed.
Of course I could repeat myself, but I'm just like: "Are you even vetting your candidates?" (this is what I'm saying to myself in the back of my head)
There is an almost immediate response from the lady... "I never thought of that, thanks for letting me know"
Followed by another resposne to the effect of current tenant has extended stay, and I need a place sooner, so it won't work, and this is why it won't work.
Really? That's why it won't work?
Probably more like she didn't like the call-out on the lack of attention to detail.
The reason I kept it short, didn't repeat myself, and said "hey, check my profile," was because I already sensed it wouldn't work. That's a bit concerning that a nurse would lack attention to detail like that.
Also could have been testing me; some people know their issues and put others through the paces to see if it'll be a match. This is not a bad approach to things.
The lack of awareness is a problem, though. The inability to see through/past is of concern.
But the number one thing that goes through my mind is: This person is a nurse? I would not want this person caring for me in a medical environment. That lack of attention to detail is scary enough, but add to it the whole looking for a way to not be wrong or come out on top or distract/deflect... the more often I see this, the more I realize it lacks maturity.
This is what Eat My Shorts is all about. Day to day events that strike me funny. You might see things differently. I know I do. I could spend time analyzing every angle; yours might be represented, but this is my place for my thoughts, abridged. Thank you for reading.
